How can we help?

Cybersource

LoanPro is integrated with Cybersource, a payment gateway that allows you to process bank card transactions, void payments, manage funding/disbursements, and retrieve payment statuses. Cybersource is not directly connected to the credit card networks, but routes payment information to your Merchant Services Provider (MSP). You must engage your own MSP, and we recommend you use Select Bankcard.

Through Cybersource, you can participate in the Visa Debt Repayment Program, but the specific benefits—such as reduced interchange fees—depend on your chosen merchant acquirer.

This article will guide you through setting up and using the Cybersource integration within LoanPro. To start, here’s an overview of the process.

Setup and configuration

Depending on your setup, you’ll be able to sign up with Cybersource in one of two ways:

  1. Direct signup with Cybersource
If you already work with a Merchant Services Provider, you may be eligible to sign up with Cybersource directly. Reach out to your regular LoanPro contact to help you get started.
  2. Working with a Merchant Services Provider
If you don’t already work with a Merchant Services Provider, you’ll need to sign up with one to begin processing  payments through Cybersource. We recommend Select Bankcard.

Integration setup

Once signed up, Cybersource will give you the following information, which you should pass back to LoanPro:

  • Cybersource Client ID
  • Cybersource Client Secret

LoanPro will use that information to set up the integration in your LoanPro Secure Payments tenant. To view or edit your Cybersource settings, navigate to Processors > Bank Card > Cybersource> Add/Edit.

If you would like to set up Cybersource on your own, here are the steps:

  1. Navigate to Processors > Bank Card > Cybersource > Add/Edit in Secure Payments.
  2. Enter the required information provided by Cybersource (e.g., Cybersource Client ID and Client Secret).
  3. Set Sandbox to ‘Yes’ for testing purposes.
  4. Click ‘Save’ to confirm setup.

Participating in the Visa Debt Repayment Program

If you want to enable the Visa Debt Repayment Program (excluding ACH transactions, which will be supported in Phase 2), you can do so by checking ‘Yes.’ This option allows you to access reduced or waived interchange fees when borrowers use a Visa debit card to repay debt. Specific benefits, however, depend on the terms provided by your chosen merchant acquirer.

To participate, clients must meet the following requirements:

  • Be registered with Visa.
  • Use a category code (MCC) of 6012 (financial institution) or 6051 (non-financial institution, currency related).
  • Not operate as a debt collection agency.
  • Comply with all Visa U.S.A. Inc. Operating Regulations.
  • Display the Visa logo or wordmark on their website.
  • Be identified as the merchant of record for transactions.

Please work with your Visa and Cybersource contacts to complete the registration process.

Testing the integration

Cybersource offers both ‘Sandbox’ and ‘Production’ modes for testing and live transactions. We recommend verifying your full transaction flow in Sandbox mode before switching to Production.

How to toggle between modes:

  1. Go to Processors > Bank Card > Cybersource > Add/Edit
  2. Check ‘Yes’ under Sandbox to activate testing mode or uncheck it to switch to Production.

How to create and test a payment:

  1. In the LoanPro LMS, use an existing loan or create a new loan for testing.
  2. Assign a customer to the loan.
  3. If the customer does not already have a payment profile:
    1. Navigate to Customer > Primary > Customer Manager > Payment Profiles.
    2. Create a new payment profile for the customer, ensuring Cybersource is selected as the designated processor.
  4. Go to Servicing > Payments and initiate a payment using the payment profile you created with Cybersource as the payment processor.
  5. Review the transaction status in either LMS or Secure Payments to ensure it was processed successfully.

Payment profile required fields

To meet FDIC and AML regulatory requirements, we require borrowers have an email and phone number tied to their payment profile in Secure Payments. This information supports identity verification and ensures compliance.

Processing workflows

The Cybersource integration within LoanPro supports several key workflows.

Processing a bank card payment

  • LoanPro receives a request to process a bank card transaction.
  • The system checks that the payment profile is associated with an active customer in LoanPro with valid email and phone number.
  • If validated, the system initiates the transaction linked to the customer account and sends the data to Cybersource for processing.
  • If not validated, the payment will not go through, and the transaction attempt with Cybersource will fail.

Voiding a bank card payment

  • LoanPro receives a request to cancel a transaction.
  • The system verifies the status of the transaction:
    • If the status is ‘Pending,’ the system updates the transaction status to 'Voided' and sends a request to Cybersource to cancel it.
    • If the status is 'Processing,' LoanPro continues with the cancellation process.
    • If the status is anything else, the system informs the user that the transactions cannot be canceled.

Processing a funding/disbursement transaction

  • LoanPro receives a request to process a bank card funding transaction.
  • The system links the transaction to the customer account and payment details, then submits it to Cybersource for processing.

Payment status retrieval

LoanPro checks the status of pending bank card transactions in CyberSource daily, ensuring that all statuses are kept up to date.

Looking ahead: Phase 2 integration with Cybersource

In Phase 2 of the Cybersource integration, LoanPro will expand beyond bank card transactions to include ACH transactions, helping you meet diverse customer needs and reduce transaction costs. Stay tuned for more details as this integration addition becomes available.
